Sanpete County in Central Utah will once again serve as the site for one of Utah’s favorite cycling events.  The Sanpete Classic Road Race, a USA Cycling sanctioned event and part of the UCA race series, will once again test all race categories with a competitive event that is modeled after a traditional European style road race.  And for the more casual bicycle enthusiast The Sanpete Classic Fun Ride will be offered to riders of all ages and abilities who don’t want to necessarily race but want to test themselves and enjoy a great day on the road with other cyclists from around the state and region.

*Held under USA Cycling Permit

Wheel Support

Neutral Wheel support will be available for the following groups: Men Cat 1-2, Men Cat 3, Men Cat 4, Men Cat 5, Women Cat 1-3, Masters 35+/45+, Master 35B/55+.  5-10 racers (depending on size of group) will be chosen randomly to provide an extra set of wheels for support.  Please have those wheels labeled with your name and race category prior to event to make the process go smoother.  Race fees will be refunded if racer can provide wheel car and a volunteer driver for any race. Please e-mail if interested.

Sanpete Classic Fun Ride

The Sanpete Classic Fun Ride will utilize the same great 46 mile and 72 mile courses that will be used for the races, but Fun Riders will get to ride on them first. The Fun ride participants will leave Spring City (mass start via cannon blast) at 9:00am.  This will allow most riders the opportunity to complete their ride in cooler temps and before the racers have caught up to them.

Fun Ride Support

The Fun Ride will be a fully supported ride with a three separate feed zones in Fairview, Moroni and Wales that will include energy drinks, nutrition bars and fresh fruit to refuel for each segment of the particular course.  We will have mechanics on the road to help with flats and other bike problems and all riders ride will finish their day with a post ride BBQ in the Spring City pavilion behind the Main Street Church.

Safety First

Fun Ride participants need to be aware the races may come up upon them as they finish their rides.  Please keep to the right of the road and completely off the road at all feed zones.  Riders are also strongly encouraged to ride single file while on US-89 or on Route 132.

Fun Ride Benefits

All participants of the Fun Ride will receive an event gift and their ride number will get them one (1) BBQ lunch at the Spring City Church pavilion (just west of the Start/Finish area).  All fun riders will also be entered into the post race raffle that will be held at the BBQ after the races have been completed. Please keep ride number handy.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am new to cycling, what is the difference between the race and the fun ride?
The Race is a competitive event for all categories of USCF licensed riders.  Each race category will assigned to race one of the three courses.  The Fun Ride is open to all that may want to take the ride at a leisure pace and enjoy the sites and scenery of Sanpete County. Each participant can choose to test themselves on the 45 mile course or the 72 mile course.  Fun ride participants will leave Spring City in small groups of 10-20 (for safety).  Stopping at each feed zone is encouraged to refuel and mechanical support will be “on-the road” helping out with possible flats or mechanical issues.  All participants of the Race and Fun Ride will be given wrist bands that will tell them which of the course they will be riding and allow them access to the feed zones and the post ride BBQ lunch.

I do not have a license but I am interested in racing.  How can I do that?
If you do not have a license you can purchase a one day USA Cycling license for $10 and race in one of the entry level categories for men, women or juniors.  This $10 will include you one-day license and 1-day chip rental.  If you are doing the Fun Ride you do not need a license.

I will have family attending can they come to the post race BBQ as well?
Yes, you can purchase extra BBQ lunches for $10 each.

How long will it take me to get to Spring City?
If you live in Salt Lake it is about 100 miles away and take you about 1:45 minutes of drive time.

Is there any place where I can get breakfast the morning of the race?
The options are quite limited so I would suggest picking up breakfast before you arrive or somewhere along the way.  Staying overnight in the area may be a nice option as many of the Bed & Breakfast lodging options will accommodate any cyclists request for early food.
